If It’s Broke, Then Fix It!

February 7, 2010

We’ve all heard the song line: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it

But what about when it’s broke? It’s been broke for a while. And it needs to be fixed.

I wish I could say that fixing the problem is the obvious solution. But from what I’ve seen, that’s a lie: if it were obvious, everyone would be doing it.

Instead, people shy away from fixing a problem and instead find a way to just get by for a while. They patch the hole. But the hole is still there. And it’s only a matter of time before you fall into it again.

And it angers me when I know I’m being ordered to patch a hole and not fix it. Because I know that soon I will be patching the hole again. And again. When you patch holes, you’re only wasting time. And effort. And jeopardizing satisfaction.

Please, if it’s broken, then fix it!

Can you give an example of something that’s broke that people aren’t fixing?
